The Northern Territory Police Association (NTPA), says former NT Police Commissioner, Mr Paul White APM is being remembered as a compassionate and humble man, following his tragic death in South Australia yesterday.

Acting NTPA President, Owen Blackwell, said the Association always enjoyed a positive and productive relationship with Mr White, and his loss will be felt throughout the Territory.

“Anyone who knew Mr White certainly found him to be a really engaging Commissioner.

“He always had the welfare of the troops at heart. He genuinely cared about his police force and a significant number of his policies were developed to ensure Members were looked after.

“Mr White’s NT policing legacy is significant. Some of the highlights include successfully overseeing the rollout of the 2007 Federal Intervention under Operation Themis, which had a significant impact on staffing and resources within the agency, championing the introduction of legislation to target outlaw motorcycle gangs, and innovation around intelligence-led policing in the Northern Territory.

“Upon his retirement from policing in 2009, Mr White also made a significant donation to NT Police Legacy

“Mr White was not only well-respected by police, but also the wider public. His death will be deeply felt across the Northern Territory community,” said Mr Blackwell.
