The Northern Territory Police Association (NTPA) welcomes the release of the long overdue NT Police Force Resource Allocation Review, which has been made possible due to the tireless lobbying of our Association over many years.

NTPA President Nathan Finn said Association members have been waiting years for their concerns to be addressed, and hopes the recommendations outlined in this Review will go some way to alleviating the pressure placed on them, due to chronic staffing and resourcing issues.

“We are largely supportive of the 18 recommendations. This is a common sense approach by the review team, led by former NT police officer and former NTPA President Mr. Vince Kelly APM.

“Whilst we are disappointed with the NT Government’s rejection of key Kelly Review recommendations, we acknowledge the significant investment by the Government in adopting the remaining recommendations. Recommendations which represent a good first step towards enabling our hard-working police to do their job.

“The Kelly Review is a positive starting point to begin rebuilding the depleted NT Police Force, and provides a roadmap to ensure the NT Government commits the appropriate budgetary support for the implementation of the recommendations – but funding must flow swiftly.

“Our Association looks forward to working closely with the implementation team and Police Commissioner Michael Murphy APM to ensure our members’ interests are prioritised,” said Mr Finn.
