An Annual General Meeting Conference of the PFA NT Branch was held on Friday 21 August 2026 and a motion was moved and passed to amend the PFA NT Branch Rules.
This amendment was required following the Australian Electoral Commission’s Post-Election Report (E2024/196), which identified ambiguity in Rule 52DO(11) of the Police Federation of Australia Rules. The changes are to modernise the governance and electoral framework of the NT Branch by removing obsolete provisions, clarifying governance arrangements and introducing an electronic voting framework for Branch Elections. The amendments also establish the governance framework required for the Branch to seek an exemption under section 183 of the Fair Work (Registered Organisations) Act 2009, permitting Branch elections to be conducted by secure electronic ballot in place of Australian Electoral Commission administered postal ballots.
This amendment aligns the PFA Rules with the existing provisions of the NTPA Constitution and ensures compliance with the requirements of the Fair Work (Registered Organisations) Act 2009.
